New law for lawyers: Get older, get fired, sue for millions

I’m glad to see that the UK is not unlike the US!

Today, a new Age Discrimination Act goes into effect in England.  With the millions of dollars to be involved, much litigation is expected.

Partners no longer can be fired for their age (equity reclassification in Australia and de-equitizing in the US).  In the United States (Chicago) there currently is pending a very important case against the Sidley law firm where several partners claimed the firm removed them from the equity ranks based only on age. This litigation was brought by the US Government (EEOC) and will set a precedent irrespective of its outcome, one that is sure to be long in the making with appeals being almost certain by both sides.
